The Idea:

What if a donut shop’s story became a celebration of an entire community’s resilience? This campaign for Blue Star Donuts turned heartfelt gratitude into a powerful narrative, connecting their survival during the pandemic to Portland’s unwavering support, blending authentic voices with compelling storytelling to inspire and engage.
Blue Star Donuts approached us with a heartfelt mission to connect with the Portland community and express their gratitude for its unwavering support during challenging times. The goal was to create a video that celebrated the resilience of the brand and the generosity of the city that helped them persevere through the pandemic.

As an Art Director, I developed the concept of highlighting authentic voices from both the Blue Star team and the community. The idea was to showcase the deep connection between the two, emphasizing that Blue Star’s survival was about more than just selling donuts—it was a testament to the strength of Portland’s support. By blending heartfelt interviews with visual storytelling, we conveyed a message of gratitude and resilience.

The technical execution involved capturing heartfelt interviews with staff, highlighting their reflections on the journey and the love they put into crafting each donut. We also filmed key moments from a new store opening, showcasing the vibrant energy and renewed commitment to the community. The footage combined to create a narrative that celebrated Portland’s generosity and Blue Star’s dedication to excellence.
